11 Northern states affected by drought, desertification –NESREA

Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Mrs Ngeri Benebo, has urged Nigerians to support implementation of the Great Green Wall programme (GGW) to protect the environment.

Benebo made the call at public awareness and sensitisation workshop on environmental regulations of the programme in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The DG, represented by Atse Gwosi, said the green wall corridor passed through nine local government areas that were threatened by desertification in the state.

She said the programme, aimed at combating desertification, involved 456 councils in 11 Northern states.

Benebo listed the states as Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Yobe, Zamfara, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe.
